Alexander Technique

fmandchildThe Alexander Technique is an educational process for enhancing health and well-being with proven therapeutic results. It has been taught worldwide for over 100 years. F.M. Alexander, originally a Shakespearean actor, developed this work in response to his own recurring voice problems.

Results include improved mobility, postural alignment, energy level, performance, and effective relief from chronic stiffness, tension and stress.

The Technique allows you to develop greater awareness of postural habits that get in the way of your natural coordination. You learn the skills to undo these patterns and to make the choice to move without them. In lessons, with hands-on guidance and verbal instruction from the teacher, you learn through direct experience how to go about your daily activities with increasingly greater ease and less effort.

People of all ages and professions study the Technique for a variety of reasons. The most common is to relieve pain through enhanced coordination of the musculoskeletal system. Actors, singers, dancers and musicians use Alexander to hone their instrument, their body, as a vehicle for artistic expression: improving breathing, vocal production, fine motor coordination, and speed and accuracy of movement. Additionally athletes use it to improve form, endurance and balance.
